Handwritten Letters are IN

by | Feb 15, 2024 | Inspiration, Real Mail Stories

There’s something about opening your mailbox and seeing an envelope. Not a bill or a bank statement, but a 5×7 or 6×8 handwritten, hand-sealed and hand-stamped envelope. The smile grows on your face immediately, before you even open it.

It’s a different kind of excitement—the kind to which a text or email could never compare. Seeing your name on the envelope and then again on of the inside of the card, knowing that you were being thought of—it’s an extraordinary feeling.
Thinking of You Week is a chance to give that feeling to someone you know and care about. To send a card with heartfelt musings or silly remarks, doodles and scribbles, i’s dotted with hearts and looping letters entangling. To write a card you’d want to receive—one that will make them stop, read, smile, laugh, display it on their desk or kitchen table, and feel loved each time they reread it.

A heartfelt note is a timeless, priceless token of love. Paired with the genuine thought required to hand-pick a greeting card from the shelf of a store, it is easily one of the best ways to show someone that they are valued and appreciated.

The greatest thing about mail is that it can be sent anywhere in the world, so it can travel to your favorite people even when you can’t. Something that’s cool about our Locally Yours card line is that they are customized to say where they are coming from, whether that’s a city or landmark or anything in between. Several of our Palm Press cards emulate these location-based ideas as well, with stunning photography of specific places or general landscapes.

Though a thoughtful note should be as specific and personal as possible, here is an example of a general letter that can serve as an inspiring jumping off point:

Dear (Their Name),

I hope this letter finds you well. I’m writing to you today because you’ve been on
my mind lately, and I just wanted to say hi! (Insert memory/reason you thought of
them/something new in life/etc.).

No matter how much time has passed, I always feel connected to you. I value
your friendship immensely, and I’m so grateful that you are in my life. I would love it if we could catch up sometime soon!

Sincerely/Love,
(Your Name)

The most memorable cards include something a little extra—a doodle, a photo of your kids or pets, stickers—just be sure that the envelope doesn’t become too thick, or you might require extra postage!
